The morning began with physical training in the hall, where children used specialist equipment to complete astronaut‑style strength and balance challenges. They then visited the Jet Propulsion Lab, testing how thrust works by launching balloon‑powered rockets across the room.
Pupils also took part in a Mars Rover design task, planning their own prototypes built to survive the harsh Martian environment. Later, they explored space food, learning how meals are prepared for astronauts and even tasting some space‑friendly options.
A highlight of the day was a visit from a former NASA scientist, who shared fascinating insights into the simulators used to train astronauts for the Space Shuttle programme.
The whole experience left Year 5 inspired and eager to learn even more about life beyond Earth.
