Parents’ Evenings are held in October and February each year.

In Year Three we explore three exciting topics:

Autumn Term Spring Term Summer Term
We have been recruited to join the infamous Roman army. Have a look to see what challenges we have been facing and conquering!  Get ready to explore our prehistoric cave-dwelling ancestors in the Stone Age. After half-term, we will be learning about volcanoes. Off to Egypt for an ancient adventure. Join us to explore the pyramids, gods and Pharaohs of this sandy civilisation.

Details of our termly curriculum can be found in the topic leaflets below. Please click to download.

In Year 3, PE is on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

In the Spring term, the children have swimming lessons at the King Alfred. These take place on Wednesday mornings and will replace one of the children's other PE lessons. Details of the dates, times and arrangements relating to swimming lessons will be provided to parents/carers prior to the children starting.

Children need their PE kit for both inside and outside sport. During colder months, please do include a fleece. On the children’s PE days, they come to school in their PE kit and stay in it all day.

Home Learning

Year 3 children should continue to read at home regularly. We recommend at least fifteen minutes five times a week. This is essential to developing reading skills and all learning.

During the course of the year, children may be provided with a Lexia licence to develop the seven key areas of reading and spelling.

Spelling lists are sent out as part of Year 3 homework.

Year 3 and 4 Common Exception Words

First 100 High Frequency Words             Next 200 High Frequency Words

Times Tables

Children should spend time each week practising their times tables. Children have individual logins to Times Tables Rockstars and can build progress by playing regularly.

Topic Homework

Each week, children are set a specific piece of homework based on class work that week. This is generally English, maths or topic related.

Homework is set each Thursday and is due the following Tuesday. Homework is sent home via SchoolPing. Please remind children to put homework books in the box by Tuesday.

Food and Drink

This includes products containing nuts e.g pesto, nutella etc. We have children with severe allergies that could lead to anaphylaxis.  If your child has an allergy, we need to know.
